TOPPING
In sauce pan, stir sugar with cinnamon, nutmeg and butter.  Bring to a boil for 30 seconds.  Pour mixture immediately in cake pan.
Peel core and slice in 1/8 slices.  In skillet, melt butter medium heat.  Cook apples, stirring occasionally until apples are cooked. (about 10 minutes)  Arrange over sauce.  Set aside.
CAKE
In a large bowl, with an electric better, I beat  the butter, brown and white sugar, until it was smooth and a light colour.  I then beat in the eggs (one at a time) then I beat in the vanilla.
In separate bowl, I whisked the flour, cinnamon, baking powder and baking soda.  Alternating the flour mix and milk, I mixed it all toghet and then spread the cake mix over the apples.
Bake 350 degrees F 40-45 minutes.  I placed it on wired rack for 5 minutes then place the serving plate over top of cake pan, flip upsidown and let stand for 5 minutes before gently lifting pan off.
