To give ourselves a break from walking all over the city, we took a tour in the Champagne region. We visited the Mumm winery as well as the Moët & Chandon winery. I learnt quite a bit about one of my favorite drinks, for example, Champagne uses a mixture of 2 or 3 of these grapes:
The cellars hold hundred of thousands of bottles, letting the bottles age to perfection. This was one of my favorite things to do so far, not to mention the tastings!
The big bottle, the Nabuchadnezzar – 15L, is the equivalent of 20 regular size bottles, and sold for €1600!
VILLAGE OF REIMS
In between both wineries, we got some time to visit the Village of Reims. The Basilique Saint-Remi is a gothic style church built in 558 AD, with a few rebuilds along the way (especially after WW1). This church is where all the coronations of the Kings of France took place until the French revolution. As you can see, this church is big! Can you find Mom in the middle in the red jacket?!
